On Feb. 6, American percussion quartet Sō Percussion will be coming to the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts at ODU. Composed of Eric Cha-Beach, Josh Quillen, Adam Sliwinski, and Jason Treuting, Sō Percussion have made a name for themselves over the last 24 years. The group claim to have “redefined chamber music for the 21st century” and boast a number of glowing reviews from publications such as The New Yorker, who referred to Sō Percussion’s performance as an “exhilarating blend of precision and anarchy, rigor and bedlam.”

Sō Percussion is known to perform both original compositions and pieces from the standard repertoire of percussion ensemble music. Chronogram noted the group’s use of percussion instruments outside of drums, such as “…bells, glockenspiel, bowed marimba, and toy piano…as well as aluminum pipes and an amplified cactus.”

Sō Percussion’s performance at the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts will take place on Feb. 6 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Chandler Recital Hall. They will be joined in their performance by students from the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music. Free parking is available in Garage E, 4904 Bluestone Ave, on the corner of W. 49th St. and Bluestone Ave.

Tickets are $5 for ODU students, $10 for ODU faculty and staff as well as for groups of 10 or more, and $15 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at ODUArtsTix and at the Arts@ODU box office.

Sō Percussion will also hold a free Master Class on Feb. 7, at 12:30 p.m. in the Chandler Recital Hall.
