The Mace and Crown hires in the middle of Spring and Fall semesters, for the sequential semester. Positions are paid by stipend and require minimum of 10 hours of work per week. All positions require availability during 12:30-1:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

We are currently hiring for the 2023-2023 academic year, positions starting in the fall.

 

Managing Editor

 

Responsible for editing all copy and ensuring content adheres to
Associated Press (AP) style. Responsible for setting deadlines and conversing with editors about
pitches to organize when articles are published. In charge of securing press passes and
maintaining professional relationships with businesses and corporate bodies to best benefit the
Mace and Crown. Makes final edits of copy and assists the EiC in representing the Mace and
Crown.

 

Specific Duties:

1. Works with editors to assign digital and magazine deadlines, in order to best optimize
headline news

2. Required to look over, revise and proofread closely of the magazine proof and approve it
for printing

3. Responsible for determining when articles are published to promote the Mace & Crown
best

4. Must work with the Social Media Editor to best optimize social media publication and
website content

5. Communicates with outside contributors and contacts (freelancers, alumni) to determine
which pitches get written and which advertisers the Mace & Crown chooses to work with

6. Responsible for revising and proofreading all digital articles after the Copy Editor

7. Required to be present at all meetings and available for contact during production nights

8. Responsible for having a good working knowledge of the Mace & Crown’s policies and
constitution

9. Must be available to answer questions or messages from section editors within a
reasonable time frame that does not impede on the production schedule

10. Secures press passes for events

11. Responsible for keeping four (4) weekly office hours in addition to being present at all
meetings

Copy Editor

Responsible for editing all copy and ensuring content adheres to
Associated Press (AP) style. The Copy Editor is to make edits, trim, and write headlines and
cutlines (when needed) for stories. The Copy Editor is recommended to have completed or be
currently enrolled in ENG 335 prior to applying for the position.

 

Specific Duties:

1. Copy edit, proofread and revise section editors’ and writers’ work prior to the
production night/digital deadline.

2. Required to look over, revise and proofread closely the magazine proof and approve it
for printing.

3. Responsible for revising and proofreading all digital articles at least once before they
are published.

4. Responsible for being present at all meetings and available for contact during
production nights

5. Must be available to answer questions or messages from section editors within a
reasonable time frame that does not impede on the production schedule

6. Responsible for keeping four (4) weekly office hours in addition to being present at all
meetings
