The Mace and Crown hires in the middle of Spring and Fall semesters, for the sequential semester. Positions are paid by stipend and require minimum of 10 hours of work per week. All positions require availability during 12:30-1:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We are currently hiring for the 2023-2023 academic year, positions starting in the fall.
Photography Editor
The Photography Editor is responsible for scheduling and assigning all photo assignments by deadlines mutually agreed upon by section editors. After the photos are taken, they must look over the pictures, and if changes are needed, edit the photos accordingly. If photos taken by staff photographers are not available for publishing, they are responsible for using photo stock agencies (such as AP Photo) to purchase or acquire photos.
Specific Duties:
1. Responsible for recruiting, training and assisting staff photographers on an as-needed basis
2. Serve as primary responsible person for maintaining and checking out camera
equipment
3. Ensure that photos are uploaded to Google Drive with appropriate credit by two days
after an event
4. Responsible for uploading photo galleries to the Multimedia section of MaceandCrown.com and to the Mace & Crown’s Facebook page
5. May not leave the office on production night until all photos have been submitted
6. Must be available to answer questions or messages from other editors, interviewees, and contributing and Staff Writers/Photographers within a reasonable time frame that does not impede on the production schedule
7. Must manage and set deadlines for their assistant editor and any staff or contributing writers under their supervision, as well as communicate regularly with them
8. May shoot photos for the news organization if all other responsibilities are fulfilled
9. Responsible for being present at all meetings and available for contact during production nights
10. Responsible for maintaining four (4) weekly office hours per week in addition to attending all meetings and production nights

News Editor
The News Editor is entirely responsible for the content of the news section in the news section on the website and in the magazine. The News Editor will manage reporters, assign stories, coordinate photographs, and edit stories before sending them to the Copy Editor. Features (non-sports, non-entertainment) also fall under the News Editor.
Specific Duties:
1. Responsible for the recruitment and development of new writers, and following up with writers’ progress throughout the week. Ensure beneficial leads each week.
2. Responsible for uploading stories of their section to the news organization’s website
3. Responsible for making sure at least one story under their section is published per week while classes are in session
4. Must be available to answer questions or messages from other editors, interviewees, and contributing and Staff Writers/Photographers within a reasonable time frame that does not impede on the production schedule
5. Must manage and set deadlines for their assistant editor and any staff or contributing writers under their supervision, as well as communicate regularly with them
6. May perform basic layout of the news section in addition to these tasks
7. Before each article/magazine is sent to the printers or published the News Editor is required to look over their section and approve it to be published/printed
8. Responsible for keeping four (4) weekly office hours in addition to being present at all meetings
