Indian Students Association Brings Festival of Lights to ODU

By Sydney Haulenbeek, Arts and Entertainment Editor

The Indian Students Association is organizing an event for Diwali, the festival of lights. The Diwali event will be on November 15, starting at 6 p.m. and ending after 10 p.m. It will be held at the North Cafe of the Webb Center.

The event will feature student made rangoli art, which is patterned and stylized art on the floor, and diya painting, which is painting done on Indian mud candles.

Prior to COVID, ISA’s Diwali events resulted in a turnout of over 500 people, and they expect the festival to be lively this year as well. They’re offering samosas for the first 200 people.

There will be dancing and cultural performances, a fashion show, Indian art, and Indian food – all provided free of charge. Different opportunities to win prizes like Fitbits and JBL speakers will be available too!

The event is open to the public and does not require tickets.
