Legendary comic book writer and publisher Stan Lee has died at age 95. This comes after years of Lee suffering from poor health, including a fierce bout with pneumonia.

Lee formed Marvel Comics with fellow writer and editor Jack Kirby in 1961. Lee and Kirby are responsible for creating some of the most famous comic book characters such as Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Black Panther and Iron Man.

Lee’s final years were marred by several personal and legal upheavals, including the death of his wife Joan, whom he had been married to for 70 years.

Several of Lee’s close friends and family members were accused of vying for control of Lee’s financial assets and committing elderly abuse, including his own daughter, J.C Lee.

Millions of fans and celebrities took to social media to mourn and show gratitude to Lee, for the many stories that he has created over the decades.

Chris Evans, famous for playing the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, tweeted, “There will be another Stan Lee…he exuded love and kindness and will leave and indelible mark on so, so, so many lives.”
