ODU’s 46th Annual Literary Festival, featuring faculty and invited guests, will run this week from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5. The theme of this year’s Literary Festival is “Connections.”

“In a time of technological advancements that seem to challenge the very nature of writing and art, we come together to reconnect and reaffirm the transformational and profoundly human act of making and experiencing the written word,” write Dr. Luisa A. Igloria and Kent Wascom, the co-directors of the festival.

Oct. 2 will feature the Chauna Craig and Jerri Dickseski Prize Presentation at 12 p.m. and readings from Jane Alberdeston and Marianne Chan at 4 p.m. Poet Brian Turner will present at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 3, guests will receive the opportunity to hear from Quebecois poet Virginie Beauregard D., with Peter Schulman. The 6 p.m. event will feature actor, director, and art historian Dr. Peter Weller, who will also be at the 7:30 p.m. screening of the film “New Age.”

Memoirist Michael Patrick Pearson starts off Oct. 4 with a reading of his work at 12 p.m. At 4 p.m., ODU alumni Amanda Galvan Huynh, Richard Leise, Bob Kunzinger, Tracy Rice Weber, and Van Vaneendenburg will read their various works. The last event of the day will be a reading from S.A. Cosby at 7 p.m.

The Literary Festival will close on Oct. 5 with a reading from Andrew Joseph White, a recent MFA graduate from George Mason University.

All of the ODU Literary Festival’s events are free and open to the public. All events will be held in the University Theatre, with free parking available at the Constance Center 45th street garage.  More information can be found at ODU Literary Festival.
