ODU inches closer to the Conference Title with 73-60 victory over Charlotte.

The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (21-6, 11-3 C-USA) defeated the Charlotte 49ers (6-19, 3-11 C-USA) with a score of 73-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The Monarchs had three scorers in double figures Saturday. They were led by senior guard Ahmad Caver (7-15 FG, 3-7 3PT, 3-4 FT) who finished with a game high 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

Fellow senior guard B.J. Stith contributed 17 points to go along with Xavier Green who added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the winning effort. The win also claimed the number one seed for ODU in the Conference USA tournament and gave the Monarchs a two-game lead over Western Kentucky for the regular season conference title.

Unlike the first time ODU played Charlotte this season, they took command of the game early on jumping to a quick 11-2 lead after shooting a scorching hot 6-6 to start the game.

Charlotte was then able to cut the lead to only 6 with 10:20 to go in the first half before Old Dominion went on a 27-11 run sparked by two quick layups from B.J. Stith giving the Monarchs a 22-point advantage that they would never relinquish.

Charlotte was dominated in every facet of the game by ODU getting outrebounded 35-25, tallying only 6 assists, and being held to a paltry 39% shooting from the floor and 23.5% from three-point range.

This victory was the third in a row for ODU and their 10th win out of their last 11 games, as the Monarchs head towards the end of a very impressive regular season.
