The deadline for submissions to the third annual Monarch Short-Film Festival is rapidly approaching. Student films may be submitted for the competitive film festival taking place in late February.
The films must be submitted by Feb. 2, 2025. Each submission cannot exceed 20 minutes, and the films must have been completed between Jan. 20, 2024 and Feb. 2, 2025. There are four categories for submissions: fiction, documentary and animation, which are open to enrolled ODU students, and a fourth category for short films created by ODU alumni, unless their film was created while they were still enrolled as a student before graduation.
During the festival, a jury will individually watch the films and give each a score. The films with the best scores will be screened to audiences, and award winners will be announced. There are six awards to win: the best film in each of the four categories, as well as an award for the best film overall and the audience favorite. Alumni films are excluded from the voting for audience favorite.
The event’s ceremony will take place at the University Theatre on Feb. 28, at 7-9 p.m. More information about the event can be found here.
