Coffee & Contemporary Arts is now a staple event of the Barry Art Museum, taking place every Thursday during ODU’s activity hour, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Free and open to the public, museum-goers can enjoy a coffee cart and a new performance or showcase each week.
September’s line-up included several music performances and a panel with the ODU Creative Writing MFA Program. The coming months promise even more events for the public to enjoy.
Upcoming music-related events include the WEPA Latin Dance Performance on Oct. 3 and a piano performance from Walter Bell on Oct. 21.
Many art-related showcases are planned for the Coffee & Contemporary Arts hour. The “Sound Map for a Changing Landscape” Sound Design Session is set to be held on Oct. 17. The ODU Graphic Design Club will showcase some of their works on Oct. 24.
The Student Art League will host “Artist Talks” on Nov. 7. ODU Art Therapy will host “Take What You Need: Art Making for Self-Care” on Nov. 14.
Since Halloween falls on a Thursday this year, the Barry Art Museum is celebrating accordingly by hosting a costume contest for Coffee & Contemporary Arts on Oct. 31. They will also offer free face painting.
December’s Coffee & Contemporary Arts exhibition will be an artist panel featuring Brendan Baylor, Peter Eudenbach, Melissa Hill, and John Roth— artists who contributed to the Message in a Bottle exhibit currently on display at the museum until Jan 5., 2025.
With something new to offer each week, “Coffee & Contemporary Arts” is an excellent way for students to spend a Thursday afternoon.
